Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is A2?
The Acts 2 Church (A2) is a body of believers who strive to live our lives, as best that we can, in the way that Jesus called us. We want to follow God, to serve Him, and grow in His love and wisdom. To help us accomplish this, we will serve the people God has in our lives, our families, our friends, and even people we don’t know.

2. What denomination is A2 affiliated with?
Acts2 Church is a non-denominational, New Testament home church. We are self-governed and independent from any denominational control or influence.

3. Why do you meet in people’s homes?
We believe, following the Acts 2:42-47 believers, we need to meet in more intimate settings. As a ‘home church,’ we can operate much quicker than an established church. Instead of covering the operating expenses of a building and staff, we can funnel those funds to people who really need them.

4. What happens if you outgrow that house?
When we outgrow the first A2 Home Church, we will raise up another leader to take another group of believers into their home, and replicate again as needed. Once the A2 Church is in multiple locations, we will choose a meeting place, once a month, to celebrate as a large family.

5. What do I wear to a typical service?
Please come dressed as comfortably as you want. Jeans, T-shirts, flip-flops, sneakers, dress slacks, button downs, it’s all ok. Unfortunately, bikinis and Speedos are frowned upon.

6. What do you offer for children and youth?
We want our children to have an enjoyable experience, so we offer our children an age-appropriate lesson given by someone who focuses on the needs of children. We also check into the backgrounds of all of our childcare workers, so your kids are safe while they learn about Jesus Christ.

We encourage our youth (ages 12 and above) to enjoy the Gathering time with the adults. We do ask that, if possible, you let us know how many kids you will be bringing so that we can be best prepared.

7. What does the typical service/gathering look like?
We call our services Gatherings and here is what they look like: We get together as a group and spend some time singing and praying. Then we spend some time talking about what Jesus has done in our lives and look to Scripture (the Bible) to hear what God wants to tell us. We take Communion together and then spend some time just hanging out enjoying some amazing food.

8. Are you affiliated with any other churches?
We are not officially connected to any church, be we are connected to all Bible believing Christian organizations.

9. Do you believe in the ‘Gifts of the Spirit’?
We do believe in the Gifts of the Spirit (speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healing), but we do not expect them to manifest themselves within our Gatherings. If they do happen, it will truly be of the Holy Spirit, and they will be presented accordingly.

10. Do you take up an offering?
In accordance with Acts 2:42-47, we take up a collection to further the ministry of A2. It is used to help people who are in need.

11. Where does that money go?
Depending on the week, those monies may go to help a needy family, purchase a needed piece of equipment or supplies, or be sent to another mission or ministry. If there is no immediate need they will be saved until God reveals their purpose.

12. Do you take Communion? How often and why?
We take Communion weekly. In the Bible, the church did it as often as they came together. For most of the history of the church, it was celebrated every week and we want to continue to celebrate its meaning and purpose as often as possible.

13. What is A2’s leadership structure?
A2 is a Christocracy, Jesus Christ is the head of the church. The Holy Spirit directs and leads the church. The church is cared for by the pastors, while the mission of the church is accomplished through the church’s people.

14. Do you have a pastor?
Yes, we have a lead pastor, John Donahue, who helps lead strategically and facilitates a Home Church in his home. However, there are other leaders who help the lead pastor.

15. Do you believe in the Bible?
Acts 2 believes that the Bible is God-breathed, and trustworthy. It is totally and completely God’s Word to us and it is 100 percent accurate and true.

16. What is A2’s guiding authority?
We believe that it is our guiding authority: where the Bible is vocal, we are vocal, where it is silent, we are silent. “In the essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things, peace.”
